Polytechnic University of Bucharest is the oldest and most prestigious engineering school in Romania. Her traditions are linked to the establishment, in 1818 by Gheorghe Lazar, the first higher technical schools teaching in Romanian at St. Sava Monastery in Bucharest, which was reorganized in 1832 in the College of Saint Sava.
On 1 October 1864 , was founded the "School of Bridges and Highways, Mines and Architecture", which is 30 October 1867 "School of Bridges, Highways and Me" 5 years full time studies.
Rectorate UPBSub leadership of Gheorghe Duca, on 1 April 1881, the institution gets a new structure under the name "National School of Bridges and Highways" and on 10 June 1920 from Bucharest Polytechnic School was established, with four sections: Electro, Construction, Mining and Metallurgy, Department of Industrial.
